Ivanka Trump Faces Fierce Backlash Over Her Tribute to Dolly Parton Following the Singer’s Death

Ivanka Trump was among the many public figures who honored Dolly Parton after the country music legend died on Thursday. Her message, however, has prompted intense criticism, with angry fans condemning the tribute.

News of Dolly Parton’s death was made public on Tuesday. Relatives, friends, fellow entertainers, and admirers soon filled social media with remembrances and messages of respect for the singer, who was 80 when she died. Ivanka also posted a tribute, but the response to it quickly became hostile.

The 44-year-old daughter of President Donald Trump wrote on X that a quote from Parton had remained with her for years. Ivanka explained that she had mentioned the words during an earlier appearance on Lex Fridman’s podcast. The advice she attributed to Dolly was that she chose love and acceptance instead of criticism and condemnation.

Ivanka went on to celebrate Parton’s legacy. She described the observation as apparently uncomplicated but deeply meaningful beneath its simple surface, much like many of the qualities that made Dolly an American icon.

She then said farewell to a bright presence, praising Parton as an unmatched vocalist, exceptional songwriter, talented comedic performer, devoted philanthropist, successful entrepreneur, and genuine original. Although the two women had never met, Ivanka said she greatly admired and adored Dolly.

The reaction arrived almost immediately. Several social media users accused Ivanka of attempting to connect herself to Parton’s reputation and achievements.

One commenter first claimed Ivanka had not written the message herself, then argued that her family represented precisely what Dolly had tried to avoid and told her to “f— off.”

A second critic used the insult “Eva Braun Barbie” and warned Ivanka not to link herself to Parton or speak on her behalf. The commenter said Ivanka was not worthy of sharing the same air as Dolly and accused the Trump family of opposing the values Parton had spent her life supporting.

Another person pointed to Dolly’s charitable record. The user wrote that Parton invested a tremendous amount of time, effort, and money in assisting people experiencing poverty, while also counting flamboyant drag queens among some of her favorite people. The comment urged readers to remember those facts if MAGA supporters tried to claim her legacy.

A fourth response demanded to know what Ivanka had done for millions of children with her family’s wealth. The critic answered “nothing” and added that Ivanka could not even clean Dolly’s toilet, much less compare herself to her.

A fifth commenter characterized Parton as kindhearted and generous, then attacked Ivanka as a cruel, soulless grifter. The post also alleged that she had helped her family take money connected to her father’s purported foundation.

Dolly Parton dies at 80

One user posted a video in which Parton discussed the LGBTQ+ community. The accompanying message said the clip would be placed beneath every hypocrite seeking attention from an icon’s death and identified it as Dolly speaking in support of LGBTQ+ people in 2016.

In the footage, Parton said she did not believe in condemning or judging other people. She questioned why someone who considered themselves a good Christian would pass judgment on others and argued that people should show more love and compassion. Dolly said everyone should be free to exist as they are—whether gay or straight—and be allowed to live openly as themselves.

Ivanka’s message appeared as Parton’s relatives confirmed her death in an emotional social media statement. Dolly’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, delivered the announcement through the singer’s Instagram page.

Seaver explained that Dolly had asked him years earlier to make the video announcement, before he had fully understood that it would one day become real. He said he had served as her head of security for more than two decades, following his father Larry in that responsibility. Although he had often imagined the emotional burden of the moment, he had never truly experienced its weight until it arrived.

He described the task as an honor accompanied by enormous pride and deep sadness. Seaver added that the sorrow belonged to those left behind rather than to Dolly. In his words, she had lived in the light and was now held by Jesus, likely welcomed by Carl, her parents, and the many people who had watched her and hoped to meet her in heaven.
