Disney star Carla Jeffery dies at age 33

Carla Jeffery, best remembered by Disney Channel audiences as the upbeat cheerleader Bree in the Zombies movies, has died. She was 33.

Alexanders Talent, the company that managed Jeffery, said she died on September 1. A cause of death has not been made public.

Her agency of many years announced the devastating news online and paid tribute to a performer it had represented and encouraged for over 20 years.

The company said its team was heartbroken while mourning their beloved Carla Jeffery. They described the privilege of watching her develop from a remarkably talented young girl into the vibrant, beautiful actress and woman she became.

The agency said Carla would be remembered for her contagious smile, joyful laughter, gifts as a performer and the radiant presence she brought wherever she went.

The statement extended the agency’s deepest sympathy and love to Carla’s relatives and loved ones. It also requested respect for the family’s privacy during an extraordinarily painful period, before bidding Carla a beautiful rest and saying she would remain deeply missed and forever loved.

Fans knew her as Bree

Jeffery became widely recognizable to Disney fans after appearing in Zombies, the musical film released in 2018 that proved popular among younger viewers. She portrayed Bree, Addison’s bubbly cheerleader friend, and returned to the role in Zombies 2 and Zombies 3.

Her latest performance as the character came through voice acting in Zombies: The Re-Animated Series.

However, Jeffery’s work as an actress started many years before she joined the Zombies set. During a 2007 interview, she said she had wanted to become a star ever since taking part in elementary-school talent shows.

She began working professionally at only 12 years old. Her early credits included the 2006 comedy Phat Girlz, which starred Mo’Nique.

Jeffery continued expanding her acting résumé through roles on television programs such as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Uncle Buck and American Vandal. She portrayed Keysha Black across 10 episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm and appeared as Janila in the police series Southland.

A Houston native, Jeffery was also the twin sister of actor Carlon Jeffery. He played Cameron Parks on the Disney Channel show A.N.T. Farm.

From a child beginning her journey in entertainment to an actress recognized by an entire generation of Disney viewers, Carla spent more than two decades devoted to the profession she loved.

Friends, colleagues and fans are now honoring Jeffery for the happiness she gave the people around her and for the smile that, in the words of her management team, was capable of illuminating every room. Rest peacefully, Carla.
