Game of Thrones Actor Michael Patrick Dies at 35 After Illness

Actor Michael Patrick, recognized for his role in the acclaimed television series Game of Thrones, has passed away at the age of 35. His wife, Naomi, confirmed the tragic news, explaining that the actor had been battling Motor Neuron Disease for several years.

The actor’s journey with the illness began on February 1, 2023, when he received his diagnosis. Ten days before his death, he was admitted to the hospital, where he ultimately passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and close friends. Naomi expressed her deep gratitude for the hospital staff who cared for her husband during his final days.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Naomi wrote that words could not describe the heartbreak she and her family are experiencing. She reflected on his character, noting that Mick was an inspiration to everyone who met him. She described him as a titan of a man with infectious laughter and a spirit of joy, emphasizing that he lived his life as fully as any person could. To honor his memory, she shared one of his favorite quotes from Brendan Behan, which focused on the simple, essential joys of life: food, drink, and the love of others.

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Michael Patrick pursued a dedicated path in the performing arts. He studied at the University of Cambridge, where he was an active member of the renowned Cambridge Footlights comedy troupe, before continuing his training at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London. During his career, he graced the stages of the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing in classic productions such as Measure for Measure and The Taming of the Shrew.

Beyond his theater work, Patrick built a diverse television career. In addition to his appearance in the sixth season of Game of Thrones, he starred in the series Blue Lights, This Town, and the BBC production My Left Nut. He also appeared in multiple episodes of The Spectacular and Blasts from the Past.

Even as his health declined, Patrick remained committed to his craft. In 2024, he took on the title role in a Belfast Lyric Theatre production of Richard III. His final professional credit was in the German television film Mordlichtern – Tod auf den Färöer Inseln, which premiered in 2025.

In his final social media post, shared on February 6, Patrick openly discussed his prognosis, revealing that his neurologist had estimated he had only one year to live. Despite the gravity of the situation, he remained characteristically optimistic, stating that he still had plenty to live for and many plans for the future.
