Ashad Russell, a 35-year-old passerby, was cleared of any wrongdoing by the State Attorney’s Office after intervening in an attack on a Florida sheriff’s deputy.
The incident occurred when Russell witnessed Deputy Dean Bardes being assaulted on Interstate 75. Russell, who held a concealed carry permit, acted to protect the deputy after being instructed to do so.
The State Attorney’s Office determined that Russell’s actions were justified. While Sheriff Mike Scott praised Russell’s response, the brother of the assailant, Strother, expressed disagreement with the outcome. The case has been reviewed and closed with no further action taken.
