Paralyzed dog finds love before final goodbye

Caring for a disabled pet presents a challenge that not all owners are prepared to undertake. Tragically, this often results in paralyzed dogs being abandoned, much like Lunetta. She was a beautiful little dog found tied to a railing on the streets of Salta, Argentina.

A staff member from a nearby animal care facility discovered Lunetta and was horrified by her condition. Her hind legs were secured to a rusty wheelchair, and she lay helpless on the pavement without food or water.

Beside her was a bag of diapers and a note providing her name, age, and a heartbreaking explanation that her owners could no longer care for her. The rescue group Luba Salta was immediately contacted, and two volunteers quickly went to assess Lunetta’s health and bring her to safety.

She was placed in a temporary foster home, and her story was shared on Facebook with the hope of finding a family willing to care for a paralyzed dog. An American family soon responded, offering to adopt her.

This seemed like a dream come true, but unfortunately, they were not prepared for the level of care she required. Due to neglect, Lunetta developed a severe staph infection, and her health rapidly deteriorated.

Just as her future became uncertain once more, another American family stepped in and provided Lunetta with the love and medical attention she needed. With proper care, she made a remarkable recovery and finally experienced the joy of a loving home.

Her new life was filled with happiness; she had a canine sister to play with, a specially designed wheelchair that allowed her to move freely, and countless adventures. She ran through parks, played in the snow, and even participated in Christmas celebrations with her family.

However, time eventually ran out. A month after celebrating her 11th birthday, Lunetta fell ill and was taken to the intensive care unit at the University Medical Hospital.

Despite her brave fight, she passed away surrounded by her loved ones. Her adoptive mother shared a touching message on Facebook: “I will never forget her and how much she meant to me.

She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.” Although Lunetta’s journey has ended, her final year was filled with the love, joy, and care she always deserved.
