Dog Dumped in Trash Bin Home Safe

On April 16th, the Nebraska Humane Society shared the disturbing discovery of Leo, a missing dog found in horrific condition. Just two days prior, employees at an Omaha accounting firm had heard unusual noises emanating from their office dumpster. Assuming it was a raccoon, they were shocked to find a small dog tightly wrapped in duct tape, discarded and left to die. Leo’s legs were bound, his tail taped, and debris was tangled in his fur.

Kevin Wiederin, one of the employees who found him, described it as the worst thing he had ever witnessed. The firm immediately contacted Animal Control, and local pet advocate Aaron O’Connell arranged for Leo to be transported to safety. Animal control officers carefully freed Leo and brought him to the Nebraska Humane Society.

There, staff patiently worked to remove the tape and clean him. Despite everything he had endured, Leo wagged his tail once the sedation wore off, exhibiting signs of hope and strength. Leo’s microchip led staff to his owner, Erin Dillon-Pasillas, who had reported him missing days earlier.

Though heartbroken by what had occurred, Erin was overjoyed to be reunited with him. Leo now sports a shorter haircut, but he is otherwise healthy and recovering at home. Erin described him as “the cutest dog in the world” and questioned how anyone could be so cruel.

Unfortunately, the area where Leo was dumped had no surveillance, making it harder to track down the perpetrator. The Nebraska Humane Society is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the individual responsible for this act. Leo’s story serves as a reminder of both cruelty and kindness. Although he was left in a terrible situation, the compassion of strangers brought him back to safety. Now home again, Leo is loved more than ever.
