Anniversary Post Turns into a Crisis

JOYFUL PAIR POSTS ANNIVERSARY PICTURE ON INTERNET — SOON SWAMPED BY ANXIOUS MESSAGES
My spouse and I are marking our anniversary. An excellent meal, cherished moments… naturally, I resolved to capture a picture. It appeared so captivating, I felt compelled to post it on Facebook.
Suddenly, without warning, my mobile began buzzing furiously with incoming calls and texts. I was utterly perplexed until I accepted a call from my sibling, who was virtually shouting, “FLEE AT ONCE!!!”👇My sibling’s voice, though distorted by panic, explained. “The picture! Look at the picture you posted again! In the background! Behind you, in the reflection of that mirror!” My spouse grabbed the phone, already pulling up the photo on their screen. My eyes followed theirs, scanning the seemingly perfect image of our celebratory table, the candles, our happy faces. Then I saw it. Reflected faintly in the ornate mirror on the far wall, barely noticeable unless you knew to look, was a shape. A figure, lurking in the doorway of the room behind us, cloaked in shadow, holding something glinting.
The blood drained from my face. It was unmistakable. We didn’t waste another second. My spouse slammed the phone down. “Go! Now!” We scrambled from our seats, abandoning the uneaten dessert and gifts. Adrenaline surged through me as we bolted for the back exit, fumbling with the lock. We burst out into the cool night air just as we heard a crash from inside. We ran, not daring to look back until we were several blocks away, safe in the car my sibling had already dispatched someone to bring for us. We made it. Thanks to a picture, the internet, and the vigilance of our loved ones, we had narrowly escaped a nightmare on what should have been our happiest night. It was a terrifying reminder that sometimes, the danger is closer than you think, hidden in plain sight, waiting to be noticed.
