A Delivery Driver’s Note Sparked Security Upgrades

A MESSAGE FROM THE DELIVERY DRIVER LED TO THE INSTALLATION OF SECURITY CAMERAS AROUND MY HOUSE – I WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL TO HIM.
I often order food delivery when I’m too tired to cook for my kids, and over time, we became friendly with the delivery driver in our locality. However, the last time he arrived, he appeared anxious and uneasy. Contrary to his usual custom of chatting with my young children and giving them high-fives before departing, he thrust the food into my hands and hurried back to his vehicle.
Dumbfounded and bewildered, I watched him drive away. As I brought the food into the kitchen, still pondering the reason for his behavior, my gaze inadvertently fell upon the rear of the bag – and I froze. Written in trembling script, a message was there that caused me to disregard lunch and all else. I hastened to the backyard.
MY HEART PLUMMETED when I flung open the lid of the trash receptacle, and there, I beheld ⬇️…a child’s drawing, ripped and crumpled, lay nestled amongst discarded wrappers and banana peels. It was unmistakably drawn by my younger daughter, Lily, easily identifiable by her distinctive, vibrant suns with smiley faces and stick figures with hair like unruly sprouts. My heart pounded in my chest. Lily had shown me this drawing just yesterday, a picture of our family playing in the garden. Why was it in the trash?
Then, I saw it. Scrawled in the corner of the torn paper, almost hidden by a crease, were three words: “They are watching.”
The message on the bag, the driver’s frantic demeanor, the discarded drawing, and now this chilling inscription – it all clicked into place with terrifying clarity. Someone had been in my backyard, going through my trash, and had seen Lily’s drawing. The delivery driver, in his rounds, must have noticed something amiss, perhaps someone lurking, and risked his job and safety to warn me.
Panic seized me. I rushed back inside, locking all the doors and windows. My children, oblivious to the fear gripping me, were happily setting the table for lunch. I forced a smile, trying to appear normal, but my mind raced. I couldn’t call the police without more concrete evidence, and I didn’t want to alarm my children unnecessarily.
Later that day, after the children were in bed, I told my husband everything. He, initially skeptical, became ashen-faced when he saw the drawing and the message from the food bag, which I had carefully preserved. We spent the rest of the night huddled together, fear a tangible presence in our home.
The very next morning, we were at the electronics store, purchasing a comprehensive security camera system. Installation was swift and professional. Within days, cameras watched every angle of our property, their silent vigilance a small comfort in the face of the unknown.
We never discovered who “they” were, or what their intentions might have been. Perhaps it was a prank, a misunderstanding, or something far more sinister. But thanks to the observant delivery driver and his courageous warning, we were alerted to a potential threat. The cameras brought a sense of security, allowing us to breathe a little easier, knowing we were now watching back. We owe that driver an immeasurable debt of gratitude. He may never know the extent of his impact, but his simple act of human kindness, whispered on a food delivery bag, irrevocably changed our lives for the better, and for that, I will indeed be eternally grateful.
