My Wife’s Pregnancy Takes a Terrifying Turn

Story image

MY WIFE IS THREE MONTHS PREGNANT.
I was at the office when my son, Liam, called me up.
I had to ignore it because I was presenting to the board.
But after his second call, a text message popped up:

Liam: DAD PLEASE COME HOME! IT’S ABOUT MOM, I AM SCARED.

I rushed out to my car and tried calling him back immediately, but he didn’t answer!
I tried Emily too—still NO answer.
I sped all the way home, only to run into my mom just down the street.

Me: WHAT IS GOING ON!?

Mom: I am so sorry, Ethan…

Me: NO, THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING!

But then she reveals something I never saw coming…

Find out what happened next, check the first comment! 😱👇Mom looked at me with a mix of sympathy and something else… was that amusement in her eyes?

Mom: Ethan… Liam is a little dramatic, you know how he gets.

Me: DRAMATIC!? Mom, he said he was scared! What happened to Emily!? Is the baby okay!?

Mom: Emily is… well, she’s perfectly fine. A little surprised, maybe. And the baby… the baby seems to be in a hurry.

I stared at her, confusion battling with the lingering fear.

Me: In a hurry? What do you mean?

Mom took a deep breath and finally let a small smile break through.

Mom: Ethan, relax. Emily is not in danger. She’s… she’s just started labor.

Labor? But… she’s only three months pregnant! Wait… three months *into* pregnancy. That means…

Suddenly, it clicked. I was so focused on the “three months pregnant” phrase meaning the first trimester, I completely missed the obvious. Three months pregnant meant she was nearing the end of her pregnancy! How could I be so stupid? The baby was due any day now!

A wave of relief washed over me, so intense it almost made my knees buckle. But relief quickly morphed into a different kind of panic.

Me: Labor!? Now!? But… we weren’t ready! The bags aren’t packed! The nursery…

Mom chuckled, a warm, comforting sound that calmed my racing heart.

Mom: Ethan, breathe. Everything is going to be alright. Emily is at home, comfortable. Liam panicked because her water broke and he didn’t know what to do. He just knew ‘Mom needs help!’ He called me too, you know.

She patted my arm.

Mom: Come on, son. Let’s go home. It’s time to meet your new baby. Looks like they just couldn’t wait to see their dad.

I let out a shaky laugh, the tension finally leaving my body. Liam, bless his heart, had panicked, but for a perfectly understandable reason. And Emily… Emily was in labor. We were having a baby!

We walked the rest of the way home together, my mom’s calm presence a grounding force in my still-whirling mind. As we reached the house, I could hear Emily’s voice from inside, surprisingly calm as she spoke to Liam. My heart swelled with a mix of love, relief, and overwhelming joy.

I rushed inside, and there she was, my beautiful wife, looking a little surprised, but radiant as ever. Liam was by her side, looking much less scared now, just a bit wide-eyed and important.

Emily smiled as she saw me.

Emily: Well, hello there, Mr. Important Board Meeting. Looks like someone decided your presentation wasn’t the most pressing matter of the day.

I knelt down beside her, taking her hand, and looked into her eyes, my heart overflowing.

Me: You are always the most pressing matter, Emily. Always.

And as another contraction started, and Liam proudly announced, “The baby is coming, Dad!”, I knew this was just the beginning of a whole new, beautiful, and yes, sometimes scary, but utterly wonderful chapter of our lives. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
