Have you ever noticed that life is often so busy, with so many events happening, that you might not notice what is unfolding right before your eyes?
Have you ever noticed that life is often so busy, with so many events happening, that you might not notice what is unfolding right before your eyes?
Don’t worry if that’s the case. In any event, you’re not alone. Damn, I’m one of those people who can spend five minutes searching for my mobile phone while I’m holding it in my hands.
Anyway, I think most of us would agree that in today’s world, being fully present in the moment can be challenging, as well as processing things that, as you might swear, never existed just a few hours later.
This happened to me recently after a flight, which sent me down a rabbit hole of information I didn’t even know I wanted to know…
It all started when, after my flight, I arrived at my brother’s place, and he asked me where I had sat on the plane. A perfectly ordinary question, I’m sure you’ll agree, yet it set off a fact-finding mission that took up most of an hour.
Long story short, after I told him that my seat was in line with the wings of the plane, he declared that, therefore, I must have been sitting under a black or red triangular sticker located right above my window.
I told him that couldn’t be the case. I couldn’t have possibly missed a sticker above my window. Not to mention, I had never seen such a sticker before — and I fly a lot.
I was convinced he was playing a trick on me, but after a little online research, it turned out that he was telling the truth. On the underside of airplanes, there are black or red triangular stickers — in fact, there are four of them — and since I took the time to find out what they mean, I figured I’d pass this knowledge along.
Useful Information
Although passengers might regard them as insignificant (if you even notice them at all), these triangles can be important tools for flight attendants and pilots. The markers are placed on the wings of the airplane: one indicates the front, and the other — the back of the wing.
According to Travel + Leisure, when it’s necessary to inspect the wings, pilots and flight attendants use these triangles as guides to determine their exact position. This is especially useful when checking the moving parts of the wing, including the flaps and slats, for problems such as ice buildup.
Good to Know
The stickers can also be beneficial to passengers, especially those who suffer from motion sickness. Because the wings mark the airplane’s center of gravity, sitting next to them places you in the center of the rocking motion, which in turn means you experience the least movement.
In short, choosing a seat next to one of these stickers might help you have a smoother and less turbulent flight.
