Christina can be described as a very self‐confident woman—at forty she was able to stand up for herself and articulate her point of view. But not long ago, she became extremely disappointed in her husband, who deeply let her down just before the women’s holiday. It became clear that the man had decided to invite his relatives over to his home to celebrate International Women’s Day together. He had not the slightest idea that his wife would be so disappointed to learn that he hadn’t even warned her that his parents were coming over.
If Christina had known about this a few days in advance, she would have been very grateful to her husband, and she would have also liked to discuss with him when exactly the relatives should arrive. It was strange that the man didn’t even ask Christina whether she wanted to see his family that day—because in the past it had seemed that Anton consulted with his wife on every matter, but lately everything had changed dramatically.
The most astonishing part was that at the celebration there were not only Anton’s parents but also his sister-in-law’s family, and Christina absolutely despised them. It seemed that Anton was not at all interested in his wife’s opinion, as he did not want to upset his parents, although in most cases the man still did consult with her. In the end, Christina realized that she shouldn’t let her husband get away with it, so she devised a plan for revenge. Surprisingly, the man had always been polite and would often help her with the housework—until he started coming home extremely exhausted from work.
“Have you ever thought that you don’t live alone in this house? Honestly, I never could have imagined that you’d be capable of such an act!” Christina exclaimed during an argument with her husband.
Apparently, the man just didn’t want to spend too much time explaining things to his wife, because he already knew that in the end it would lead to a serious scandal. Moreover, the man knew full well that Christina would soon forget about her grudge—since she herself didn’t like to quarrel with anyone. But this time the woman wasn’t going to remain silent; she wanted to teach her husband a good lesson, so that he would finally understand that a wife’s opinion must be respected too.
Christina thought that the man probably acted this way because he didn’t want to spend money on gifts for anyone, as he was fully aware that if he celebrated International Women’s Day surrounded by relatives, he wouldn’t have to buy a gift for every woman. It would be enough to simply purchase plenty of delicious food so that no one would be upset on that day. As hurt as Christina was by her husband’s actions, she decided to endure it because she herself didn’t want to be in a terrible mood on that day. It seemed that Christina didn’t harbor any personal animosity towards her mother-in-law, but she always felt that she shouldn’t interfere in the newlyweds’ personal life. Therefore, the woman tried to minimize any contact with her mother-in-law so that she wouldn’t disturb them unnecessarily or have any complaints about the couple.
Surprisingly, despite all this time, Christina still had not managed to befriend her husband’s sister, even though they were of the same age. In any case, Christina thought it would be better if they simply didn’t have any contact with her husband’s family and everyone just did their own thing—but Anton had a completely different opinion on that matter.
It seemed that every time Christina’s husband met with his relatives, scandals occurred more frequently in their family, no matter what the couple did to reconcile. Perhaps all of Anton’s relatives were simply envious of Christina’s success—she did everything possible to build her own future. Every time Christina managed to talk with Anton’s family, she constantly heard some insults directed at her, even though she had done nothing wrong and had no idea why they hated her so much, when all she ever did was work on herself and try to help those around her.
The moment came when preparations for the holiday began, and Christina herself didn’t plan to cook much food for the guests because she knew that they would probably not stay long. Moreover, the woman had no idea why she should prepare for the arrival of Anton’s relatives if she hadn’t invited them over—the husband was the one who had invited them. Anton didn’t understand at all that his wife could also become extremely exhausted by work since she worked twice as much as he did.
The man wasn’t bothered by any of this because he believed that a woman was obligated to do all the housework without troubling her husband. Christina knew her worth, so she wasn’t going to tailor herself to the relatives who constantly insulted her and said negative things about her, since she wanted to focus on doing something useful and spend more time on herself. That’s precisely why the woman decided that on International Women’s Day she would do absolutely nothing and finally give herself some much‑needed rest. Although she knew that most likely Anton would get angry and cause a scandal, she wasn’t going to prove anything to him because she, too, deserved a decent break.
For the most part, Christina had always catered to her husband, but she never heard a word of gratitude from him—as if he simply didn’t care about what she did. Moreover, what angered the young woman the most was that her husband talked on the phone with his mother all night long. Christina wasn’t even surprised that her husband, as usual, complained to his mother about her horrible behavior. Although it was extremely unpleasant for her to hear such words from the man she loved, she wasn’t planning to argue with Anton late in the evening, knowing that a serious conversation awaited them in the morning.
Anton didn’t even notice that his wife had already returned from work, so he continued saying all sorts of nasty things about Christina to his mother. Christina listened with great interest because she truly wanted to know what her husband thought of her. Sometimes it seemed to her that she was living a lie because Anton tried to appear kind and courteous in front of her, but in reality he was badmouthing her behind her back. It was no wonder that Anton’s mother was also extremely angry when she found out that her daughter‑in‑law wasn’t going to prepare for the holiday and would rather relax that day.
When Anton finally finished talking with his mother on the phone and left the room, he was stunned to notice Christina standing by the door, having heard everything. The man sighed heavily, realizing that there was no point in lying to his wife in this situation, and then said that on International Women’s Day he planned to go visit his relatives if Christina didn’t want to host his family in her home. The woman was utterly shocked to learn that her husband had decided to simply abandon her on that day, even though she had expected otherwise. Christina wasn’t going to quarrel with her husband, so she merely nodded and continued with her day, knowing that arguing with him was pointless. It was strange that Anton didn’t even apologize to his wife, as if he didn’t consider himself at fault with her at all.
Christina woke up in a very good mood on International Women’s Day because, for the first time in a long time, she had finally gotten some sleep, and her husband wasn’t upset that by nine in the morning she still hadn’t managed to make him breakfast. On one hand, this cheered her up, but at the same time she thought about how suspiciously her husband had been behaving lately. The woman hoped that her husband had decided to prepare some kind of gift for her that day, but she saw neither breakfast prepared for him nor any flowers or other presents. It was surprising that Anton had completely forgotten that his wife should also be congratulated on International Women’s Day.
The man only managed to wake up by noon, without even notifying his wife, who had already finished all the housework and had sat down to watch her favorite TV show. It seemed that Christina’s mood was completely ruined—she had never felt so miserable on any holiday. In the end, it was decided that Anton’s relatives would come to their home, but they didn’t even share what time they would arrive.
When the man spoke to his wife for the first time that day, he asked her which candies would be best to buy for his female relatives, but Christina no longer wanted to listen to her husband, so she simply ignored his question, waiting for him to apologize. Strangely enough, as soon as the man left for the store, Christina received a call from a friend who suggested they go to a restaurant together, since her friend was also spending International Women’s Day entirely alone and wanted some company that day.
The most interesting aspect of the situation was that Christina immediately agreed to her friend’s offer without hesitation, since she didn’t want to see her husband’s family at all. Barely fifteen minutes later, she left the house, and Anton only just managed to return from the store with his relatives. He called out for his wife, but the house was suspiciously quiet. He found it odd, but since he was in a good mood, he told the guests to feel at home. Only when the guests went into the kitchen did they notice that there was neither any food prepared nor was the house immaculately clean.
Anton didn’t even know how to answer his relatives, since he had promised them that Christina would definitely prepare for the family feast, yet his wife didn’t pick up the phone. In the end, the relatives had to order food delivery, and the man became very angry because he didn’t want to spend extra money, but there was simply no other way out of the situation. Christina returned home only in the early evening and was already intoxicated. She harbored deep resentment towards her husband, but she was glad that she had spent the day wonderfully.
