Opinion: How long-lasting royal tradition could destroy Prince Louis’ life

The Royal Family has certain traditions that go back centuries. Some have been replaced because they are too old, while others remain a vital part of the monarchy. For the royal children, some traditions start as early as their first day on Earth. For example, Prince William and Kate Middleton showed their kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, to the world while still in the hospital, and through their social media platforms, the couple shares pictures of the youngsters regularly.

A royal child’s life isn’t like any others, even though both William and Kate are said to be raising their children as normally as possible. So, is it right for them to show off their children in this new modern era of social media without their consent? Perhaps it’s time for the Royal Family to modernize even more and let their children decide whether or not they want to be shown to the world. If not, the consequences could be dire.

Ever since social media became a phenomenon, people have felt the need to share intimate details from their lives. Some choose to share a little too much, while others settle for the less-invasive homemade cookies and pictures of their pets approach. While the Royal Family might have a slightly stricter social media policy than most, they do share many photos of the family while they work.

Social media has made it possible for fans to get closer to the senior members of the Royal Family and their children. Prince William and Kate Middleton share many pictures of their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, through their official The Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account.

Why Prince William & Kate Middleton should stop posting pictures of Prince Louis

Usually, William and Kate always share new pictures of their kids on their birthdays. The youngsters have also been by their parents’ side at many royal events – though Prince Louis is still deemed to be too young.

For royal fans, seeing new pictures of the children online is a great way to keep themselves updated on the royal kids. But is it really a good idea? And should William and Kate even share pictures of their youngsters online? Prince Louis is only five years old but already known to the entire world. If you ask me, it should be his decision whether he wants his pictures posted to millions of people or not.

It’s, of course, OK to post pictures of your children to friends and family, but as for the Royal Family and every other celebrity, exploiting your child to the world isn’t necessarily a good idea.

Being a member of the Royal Family means serving the Crown – but the royal children should not be considered working members of the monarchy until they’re of age. Therefore, it makes sense that William and Kate should stop posting pictures of their children, or at the very least their youngest, Prince Louis.

As the monarchy evolves and changes, William and Kate should let their children begin to decide whether they want a public life or not. Many believe that the Royal Family should continue to show new pictures of the royal children no matter their age, and that Prince Louis should be with his parents on all royal engagements so the public can see them. To those people I say it’s important to remember that children should be allowed to be children, and that they should certainly be kept out of the spotlight.

“Why open the door…”

There are many reasons why Prince Louis shouldn’t be paraded around on social media by his parents, and the obvious one is his right to privacy. He is a very young boy and should get to choose whether he is exposed to the public or not.

As the Royal Family continues to modernize, Prince William and Kate Middleton should show that they take the importance of privacy seriously. Also, the fact that they share images of their children could be seen as exploiting them, using Louis and his siblings to maintain the public’s interest in the monarchy. The fact that they aren’t prioritize their kids’ well-being is just sad.

In the meantime, bullying and harassment are very common themes on social media. Why open the door to the risk of Louis getting harassed online already at such a young age, which could affect him negatively when he grows up?

The monarchy has a mysterious vibe, and sharing everything about the royal children — including posting pictures of them — diminishes that magic.

If Prince William and Kate Middleton really want their children to become working members of the Royal Family when they grow up, perhaps they should make the responsible decision not to display them publicly on social media. They will have plenty of time for public life in a few years.
