Kate Middleton has revealed she has told her three young children about her cancer diagnosis and that she is ‘getting stronger’ every day. The Princess of Wales addressed the nation in a video on Friday evening evening as she confirmed the shock diagnosis.
Kate is still undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment, which she started in late February. The type of cancer she is suffering from has not been disclosed.
But the mum-of-three revealed she had found out after a post-operation test following her abdominal surgery picked it up. It was confirmed on January 17 that Kate had undergone an abdominal procedure at the London Clinic, although it was not specified what the surgery was.
Kate has now spoken about telling her children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5 – about the diagnosis. She said: “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.
“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.
“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.” Kate also spoke about her husband Prince William in her message. She said: “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”
The couple are due to celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary next month on April 29. It is now known when the Princess will return to royal duties but Kensington Palace said she was in good spirits.
The full statement from Kate also asked for privacy and space for Kate as she takes in the news.
Family concerns will be front and center for the Princess of Wales as she continues her fight with cancer. With Katherine revealing last night how she went about the difficult task of breaking the news to her three children, it’s hard to imagine how Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis felt when they were told that their mom had cancer. However, the reaction of the young heirs to the British throne was quite unexpected.
The three children of the Prince and Princess of Wales could not contain their emotions. Princess Charlotte, the beloved daughter of Catherine, found herself caught in a whirlwind of emotions due to her mother’s speech about her battle with cancer. At the same time, the young princes are worried about their mom. Although their mother took some time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis and to assure them “I’m going to be okay,” despite this, William and Katherine’s children are showing the courage and resilience that is characteristic of members of the royal family.
William and Catherine want their children not to worry about this situation and to go on with their normal lives. Such great care of parents for their children during this period is admirable, and the reaction of the children is also simply priceless. According to a source close to the royal family, the trio love Princess Catherine very much and want her to get well soon.
As Princess Catherine focuses on her recovery, Prince William may be experiencing a range of complicated emotions: determination to support his wife, concerns for her health, and a desire to protect their children. Facing the biggest decision to announce their mother’s shocking health condition of the three, William looked for the right opportunity to explain and reassure them all as time went to absorb the information because their age is still quite young to receive such heartbreaking information about their beloved mother.
