He Gave My Cat to His EX?! (And She Texted Me the Proof!) 😱

MY BOYFRIEND TOLD ME HE GAVE AWAY MY CAT TO HIS EX-WIFE THIS MORNING

I walked into the silent apartment, my stomach clenching as the cat tree stood eerily empty. The house felt unnervingly still; no playful meows, no tiny paws batting at my ankles, just a hollow quiet. I called out Mittens’ name, my voice cracking slightly as it echoed in the vast living room. My hand instinctively went to her usual napping spot on the sofa, feeling only the cool, smooth fabric where her warm fur should have been.

He walked in then, smelling faintly of cheap cologne, heading straight for the fridge. β€œWhere is she?” I asked, my voice thin, almost a whisper, hoping she was just hiding. He sighed, rubbing his temples with a dismissive gesture. β€œLook, we need to talk about this, you’re being dramatic about a cat.”

β€œDramatic? Mittens is GONE! You said you’d never just let her wander out!” I screamed, my throat burning. He finally met my eyes, a strange, blank look on his face. β€œI took her to Sarah’s this morning. She missed having a pet around the house.” My breath hitched. Sarah was his ex-wife, the one he swore he hated.

My head swam, the fluorescent kitchen light suddenly too bright, making everything feel surreal. “You *gave* her away? My cat? To HER?” I choked out, unable to believe it. He just shrugged, like he was talking about a broken coffee maker. The silence that followed was deafening, except for the frantic hammering of my heart.

Then my phone buzzed with a text: it was Sarah, a picture of Mittens on her lap.

πŸ‘‡ *Full story continued in the comments…*The picture was captioned: “Mittens is settling in nicely! Thanks again!” A wave of nausea washed over me, so intense I thought I might faint. I felt a primal rage building within me, a furious storm threatening to erupt.

“How could you?” I finally managed to say, my voice trembling. “She’s not a thing to be given away! She’s family. She’s my best friend.”

He rolled his eyes, grabbing a beer from the fridge. “Look, Sarah needed her more than you do. You’re always at work, she’s lonely…”

“That’s not your decision to make!” I shouted, the beer can shaking in his hand from the force of my voice. “You had no right! You knew how much she meant to me.” Tears streamed down my face, a mixture of anger, betrayal, and heartbreak.

He just stood there, looking at me like I was overreacting. “Come on, it’s just a cat. You can always get another one.”

That was it. The line had been crossed, the trust shattered beyond repair. I grabbed my purse, my hands shaking so badly I could barely fasten the clasp. “I’m leaving,” I said, my voice cold and hard.

“Where are you going to go?” he asked, a hint of concern finally creeping into his voice.

“Anywhere but here,” I replied, slamming the door behind me.

I drove straight to Sarah’s house, my heart pounding in my chest. I rang the doorbell, taking deep breaths to try and compose myself. Sarah opened the door, a look of surprise on her face. Mittens was curled up on the sofa behind her, looking surprisingly content.

“I want my cat back,” I said, my voice firm despite the tears still streaming down my face.

Sarah looked taken aback. “He told me you didn’t want her anymore…”

“He lied,” I interrupted. “She’s mine, and I want her home.”

Sarah hesitated, then nodded. “I understand. I wouldn’t want to be separated from my pet either.” She scooped Mittens up gently and handed her to me. As I held my cat close, burying my face in her soft fur, I felt a sense of relief wash over me.

“Thank you,” I whispered to Sarah.

As I drove home with Mittens nestled safely in her carrier, I knew I was making the right decision. My boyfriend’s betrayal had shown me who he truly was – someone selfish, manipulative, and completely incapable of respecting my feelings. The relationship was over. Mittens and I deserved better. We were a team, a family, and we were going to start a new chapter, together. A chapter filled with love, respect, and most importantly, cats.
