A Poolside Encounter: My Neighbor’s Son and a Shocking Back Tattoo

MY NEIGHBOR’S LITTLE SON CAME TO SWIM IN OUR POOL – WHEN HE TOOK OFF HIS SHIRT AND I SAW HIS BACK, I WAS LEFT SPEECHLESS
It was a regular Saturday. I was tidying up the yard when nine-year-old Dylan, my neighbor’s son, walked up to the front.
DYLAN: “Hi! Sorry to bother you, but can I swim in your pool for a bit?”
ME: “Of course, Dylan! Want some lemonade?”
DYLAN: “No, thanks!”
He laid his towel on the lounger, and I still decided to bring him some lemonade anyway. Just as I walked over to him, Dylan took off his shirt and hung it on the lounger. When he turned his back to me, I dropped the glass because on his back I saw a huge😱Story continues in the first comment👇🏻… birthmark shaped like a pair of enormous, detailed wings. They spanned almost his entire back, starting from his shoulders and reaching down to his waist. The skin was a different shade, like a detailed map etched onto his skin, forming the intricate patterns of feathers. I was so stunned I couldn’t speak, the lemonade glass slipped from my fingers and shattered on the patio tiles.

Dylan turned around, startled by the sound of breaking glass and my gasp. He looked at me, his brow furrowed with concern.
DYLAN: “Are you okay? Did I do something wrong?”

I quickly knelt down to gather the shards of glass, my mind still reeling from what I had just seen. I managed to find my voice, though it was still a bit shaky.
ME: “No, no, Dylan, you didn’t do anything wrong at all. I just… I was surprised.”

I stood up, holding the broken glass pieces carefully. I looked at him again, and the wings were still there, just as astonishing as before. Instead of shock, a wave of wonder washed over me. They weren’t grotesque or scary, they were… beautiful. Unique.

ME: “Dylan,” I said softly, “Your back… those are… wings?”

He looked over his shoulder, then back at me, a hint of shyness in his eyes.
DYLAN: “Yeah… it’s a birthmark. I’ve had it since I was born.”

ME: “I… I’ve never seen anything like it. They’re incredible, Dylan. Really incredible.” I meant it with all my heart. The shock had faded, replaced by genuine admiration.

A small smile touched his lips.
DYLAN: “Thanks. Sometimes kids at school tease me and call me ‘chicken wings’ or something, but mostly people think they’re cool.”

ME: “Well, those kids are just silly. They *are* cool, Dylan. They’re amazing. You’re like a little angel with those.” I chuckled, and he giggled, relaxing a bit.

ME: “Forget the lemonade, how about some popsicles instead? And you go enjoy that swim. Those wings deserve to feel the sun and the water!”

Dylan’s face lit up.
DYLAN: “Popsicles? Awesome!”

He grinned, finally comfortable again, and this time, he confidently strode to the pool and jumped in with a splash. I went inside, still thinking about the incredible sight I had witnessed. I grabbed two popsicles and went back outside, watching Dylan happily swimming, his unique wings a beautiful and fascinating part of him. It was a reminder that beauty comes in all forms, and sometimes, the most unexpected things are the most wonderful.
