A tragic accident on the CE-060 highway, between Caririaçu and Juazeiro do Norte, left the Cariri region in mourning after an entire family lost their lives.
Hérida Nascimento da Silva, Sebastião Cícero Gomes, and their son, Miguel Nascimento Gomes, who was only 3 years old, were the victims of the crash. Their deaths brought a painful reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly an ordinary trip can turn into an irreversible tragedy.
According to information reported by TV Verdes Mares and confirmed by the Ceará Military Fire Department, the family lived in Várzea Alegre and was traveling to Juazeiro do Norte. Under normal circumstances, the journey would have taken about an hour.
The purpose of the trip made the loss even more heartbreaking. Little Miguel was being taken for a surgical procedure, a journey that carried hope for treatment, recovery, and better health. Instead, that hope was suddenly replaced by grief.
The accident happened at around 7 a.m. The vehicle fell into a stream near Sítio Piripiri, where the water was approximately 5 meters deep. The depth made rescue efforts difficult and was one of the factors that contributed to the fatal outcome.
Authorities were still investigating what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The circumstances raised concern about highway conditions and the risks faced by motorists who travel along that stretch of road.
For the region, the deaths of Hérida, Sebastião, and Miguel became more than a traffic tragedy. It was the loss of a family on a trip that was supposed to be about care and healing, ending instead in mourning for everyone touched by their story.
