Tragic end to 11-day search for missing magician Daniel Hidden
Australian magician Daniel Hidden has been found dead after disappearing during a solo camping trip, ending an intense 11-day search through remote bushland in heartbreaking circumstances.
Hidden, 26, had built his public image around illusion, mystery, and transformation. Before he vanished, a message on his website told visitors that “transformation requires disappearance.” After the young performer went missing in the Australian wilderness, those words took on a deeply unsettling meaning for the people who loved him.
Officials said Hidden left home in the early hours of June 14. He was driving a silver Hyundai and towing a caravan, reportedly heading toward the Springbrook area for a camping getaway. The location was not random. According to his brother, Ilya Jamshidi, it was one of Daniel’s most meaningful places.
Jamshidi told 7News Australia that Daniel had taken him there before and described it as one of his favorite spots. He also said Daniel had the coordinates of a location in that area tattooed on his fingers, showing how much the place mattered to him.
At first, the trip may not have seemed entirely out of character. Daniel was known to go camping and spend time away on his own. He was comfortable outdoors and often sought solitude in nature. But as time passed with no contact, his family began to realize something was wrong.
Two days after he left, police located Daniel’s vehicle, phone, and personal belongings near Gorge Falls and Cougal Cascades. The area is known for popular hiking spots, but it is also surrounded by thick, difficult bushland. Despite the discovery of his possessions, there was still no sign of Daniel himself.
For his relatives, one detail stood out immediately: Daniel had not taken his phone with him. His brother said Daniel did go away on camping trips, but going completely silent was not normal for him. The lack of contact, combined with the abandoned phone and belongings, made the situation increasingly alarming.
As the days went by, hope mixed with growing fear. Jamshidi said that a full week without contact or shelter was highly unusual for the family. Even though Daniel was experienced in the outdoors, the circumstances did not make sense to those who knew him best.
His brother explained that Daniel did not usually prefer easy, marked paths. Instead, he was drawn to difficult and unexplored places. Jamshidi said Daniel actively sought out hardship and adventure, and that if somewhere appeared dangerous or exciting, it was probably the kind of place Daniel would choose to go.
That made the search especially challenging. Crews had to cover rugged, dense terrain where visibility was limited and movement could be slow. The operation grew into a major effort involving police, SES volunteers, Queensland Fire Department crews, Rural Fire Service volunteers, Polair, drone operators, and later Australian Defence Force personnel.
More than 100 emergency workers took part as the search expanded across the area. Aerial resources were used because of the size and difficulty of the landscape. Acting Chief Superintendent Brett Jackson said searchers were relying on police aviation units and drones to help cover ground that was hard to reach on foot.
Authorities also noted that the area contained a significant amount of water, which gave search teams and Daniel’s family reason to believe survival was still possible. That hope kept his loved ones pleading for help as the days stretched on.
Daniel’s mother, Faranak, made an emotional appeal during the search. She said she believed her son was alive and that people needed to help find him before it was too late. She described him as strong and capable, insisting that others did not know just how much he could endure.
“I believe in him,” she said as she begged for continued help, adding that Daniel needed to be found because he needed assistance.
But on June 24, the search came to a devastating end. After 11 days, Daniel’s body was discovered in Mount Cougal National Park at around 11 a.m. The discovery ended the desperate operation and confirmed the outcome his family had feared.
According to 7News Australia, police said Daniel’s death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the Coroner, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are continuing.
Daniel Hidden’s disappearance began as a camping trip to a place he loved and ended with a massive search through some of the region’s most difficult terrain. For his family, friends, and the people who followed the search, the final update brought a painful conclusion to days of hope, uncertainty, and fear.
