Then she picked up a cheap polish from an unfamiliar brand. Its smell was sharper than what she was used to, but she brushed that warning aside and painted on several coats. For a while, everything looked fine. People complimented her nails, and she admired the finished look.

Before long, though, something began to feel different. Her nails felt tight and strange. Instead of stopping, Mira kept covering them again, adding fresh layers whenever she noticed a problem. Small signs appeared: yellow color, brittle edges, and growing sensitivity. She found other excuses and did not want to blame the polish.

Months later, while removing the color, part of one nail peeled away. It did not hurt much, but it clearly was not normal. Still, she hid the damage under darker shades and continued the same routine. Each new layer made the weakness easier to ignore, but not easier to heal. Her nails became thin, uneven, fragile, and lifeless.
