JoJo’s Amazing Rescue and Adoption Story

JoJo the dog had been through a lot and was in a bad way when she was eventually found. But her story has a happy ending – thanks to an unknown benefactor.

Bri Burnett was on her way home from work in Sweetwater, Texas, when she received a text from a friend with a picture of a dog she had spotted near Lake Trammell. It was clear from the picture that the dog was in desperate need of help.

Instead of heading home, Bri went straight to her friend’s house to see if she could help the dog. There she found JoJo, who was not only homeless and clearly in need of a good meal but covered in porcupine quills. Bri knew that JoJo needed medical attention if she was to survive.

“Her entire mouth and head was full of quills. She couldn’t swallow because of all the swelling,” Bri told Liftable.

“I just think it’s our responsibility to look out for people or animals that are in misery or hurting, so it was just kind of a no-brainer for me; I just knew it was the right thing to do,” said Bri Burnett.

JoJo was clearly frightened, but Bri earned her trust enough to get her into the car and rushed her to the vet. Bri told the Western Journal that the dog was given anesthesia so all the quills could be removed.

“He kept her overnight and I was able to pick her up that next afternoon. It took him over 45 minutes to remove all the quills,” Bri said.

The rescuer footed the bill herself, according to KTAB-TV.

Multiple attempts were made to try and locate JoJo’s owner, but it seemed that the information on her microchip was no longer valid. Bri then posted an ad on Facebook to try and find her four-legged friend a new home.

Haylee Stewart stepped forward, fascinated with JoJo’s story, and expressed an interest in giving her a home. When Haylee and JoJo finally met, it was love at first sight; JoJo immediately started licking Haylee’s hand, and Haylee knew that JoJo had to be her dog.

Bri was thrilled that JoJo had the loving owner she deserved after such an ordeal.
