* **Rare Blood, Secret Family: My “Cousin’s” Shocking Connection**

DR. JENKINS SAID I HAD THE SAME RARE BLOOD TYPE AS MY “COUSIN”

I gripped the armrest as Dr. Jenkins slid the thick manila folder across her polished mahogany desk. “Your symptoms align, Sarah,” she began, her voice soft but firm, gesturing to the screen. “The blood tests confirm it. It’s Factor V Leiden.” My breath hitched. Blood clots. My grandmother suffered terribly from that, but hers was a different variant. My mind immediately raced.

A stale, metallic scent, like old hospital corridors, filled the room, making my stomach churn. She flipped a page on her tablet. “What’s truly intriguing, however, is your specific, incredibly rare blood type. It’s beyond uncommon, even for a genetic marker.” My hands were clammy, cold despite the warm room.

Then her finger landed on a different section, a name circled. “This ‘cousin’ of yours, Michael?” Her eyes met mine, intense and probing. “His medical files indicate the *exact* same, highly unique blood type. Are you absolutely certain he’s just a cousin? That’s almost impossible.” My heart hammered. My mom always said he was just family from out of state.

The office quiet was shattered by a sudden, violent thud from the waiting room. It sounded like something heavy had fallen. Footsteps rushed past the door, then stopped abruptly, hushed, frantic voices whispering right outside. A cold dread, sharp as a needle, crawled up my spine.

Suddenly, my mother’s voice hissed from the hallway, “You weren’t supposed to know that name!”

👇 Full story continued in the comments…I felt my blood run cold. Mother? What was she doing here? And more importantly, what was she hiding? The metallic tang in the air intensified, making me lightheaded. Dr. Jenkins, sensing my distress, leaned forward. “Sarah, I know this is a lot to take in. But the genetic overlap is undeniable. Factor V Leiden, the rare blood type… statistically, it’s a near impossibility without a closer familial connection.”

The whispers outside grew louder, more frantic. I could distinguish hushed words like “slip up” and “damage control.” The thud from the waiting room was followed by a muffled sob. My gaze darted from Dr. Jenkins to the door, my fear coalescing into a solid knot in my chest.

“Michael,” I finally whispered, the name catching in my throat. “He…he’s not my cousin, is he?”

Dr. Jenkins nodded grimly. “Based on the evidence, Sarah, he’s likely your brother. Or perhaps… your father.”

Before I could process the implication of either, the door burst open. My mother stood there, face pale and contorted, her eyes darting between Dr. Jenkins and me. Two men, tall and imposing in dark suits, flanked her. They looked like they’d stepped straight out of a bad movie.

“Sarah,” my mother began, her voice trembling, “There’s been a… misunderstanding. You’re just confused. We need to leave.”

“Leave?” I echoed, my voice cracking. “Leave where, Mother? And what about Michael? What’s happening?”

One of the men stepped forward, his hand outstretched. “Let’s go, Miss. We can explain later.” His tone was smooth, but his eyes were predatory.

Suddenly, Dr. Jenkins was on her feet, moving with surprising speed. “No. She stays. I have a duty to my patient. And I won’t be party to anything unlawful.” She stood her ground, her gaze locked with the men.

Then, everything happened at once. The other man lunged, grabbing Dr. Jenkins and slamming her against a wall. The sound of shattering glass filled the room. My mother screamed, and I saw the man reaching for something on his belt.

Without thinking, I reacted. I lunged for the file on the desk. The one with all the information, the one that contained the answers I desperately craved.

As the first man advanced, I saw a glint of metal behind him. Before the man in the dark suit could do anything, Dr. Jenkins was struggling to reach for a button, probably to call for help. The scene was pure chaos.

Then, I felt a sharp sting in my arm. Everything went black.

***

I woke up in a sterile, white room. My head throbbed. A drip was connected to my arm. Dr. Jenkins was sitting beside me, a bandage on her forehead.

“You’re awake,” she said, her voice hoarse. “They’re gone.”

Relief washed over me. “They?”

“Your mother and… the men. They fled after a struggle. The police are on their way.”

“What about Michael?”

Dr. Jenkins hesitated. “He’s… he’s safe. He’s been in hiding for years, protecting you. Your mother… she was afraid of the truth coming out. That’s why she hid you. She used to work for a very powerful organization.”

“Powerful organization?”

“Yes. An organization that trafficked in genetic manipulation, experimenting with rare blood types to create… well, I’m not sure I understand it all. Your mother was part of it. Michael… he discovered the truth, and he tried to protect you. They’ve been trying to silence him ever since.”

A wave of understanding and confusion crashed over me. I realized that, while Michael was indeed likely my brother, he might be something else, too. Factor V Leiden was only the beginning. The real horror wasn’t just the potential blood clots, but that the secrets the organization kept were just beginning to surface, now that I knew the truth.

Dr. Jenkins placed a hand on mine. “It will be a long road, Sarah. But you’re not alone anymore.”

A new fear gripped me, mixed with a strange sense of hope. I was no longer just a woman with a medical condition. I was a piece of a puzzle, a target, and a key. And I had a brother waiting for me.
