When an Elephant Realizes She Is Finally Free After Spending 50 Years in the Circus, She Tears Up.

Life was exceedingly difficult for Mia and Sita. The two sister elephants have been shackled virtually their whole lives, forced to perform acts and entertain crowds in the circus. All of that suffering, however, came to a stop thanks to Wildlife SOS, an Indian rescue and wildlife protection organization.

The two elephants were saved by these volunteers and are now at the Elephant Conservation and Care Center, a sanctuary where they can live out the rest of their lives in peace. Mia and Sita arrived at the center after trekking 1,200 miles. They seemed ill and tired. Deep scars from years of torture remained on their bodies and spirits, yet they were nevertheless able to enjoy their first taste of freedom.

Mia sought another way to express her relief while Sita entered a pool for the first time in her life. She simply lay down on the ground to relax! The moment was so passionate and emotional that it took the volunteers who assisted these two beautiful creatures to tears.

An elephant requires rest every day, but when they are chained on the front and back legs, they commonly fail to meet this requirement. Mia was an example of this!

Mia and Sita appear to be as content as ever, relishing their new lifestyle. However, it takes a long time for them to recover completely.
