Betrayal in the Boardroom: A Dark Office Encounter

🔴 HE WHISPERED, “IT’S FOR THE BEST,” WHILE I WAS HALF-NAKED IN HIS OFFICE

🟠 I should have known something was wrong when he canceled our dinner reservation.

The stale air in his office always smells like old coffee and ambition; tonight ambition won. He didn’t even try to make excuses, just unbuttoned my shirt and said, “This will make everything easier.” Easier for who, Mark?

His hands felt clumsy against my skin, the overhead fluorescent light buzzing a headache into my skull. I pulled away; the sharp scent of his aftershave made me gag. He stammered my name and I told him I was leaving.

And that’s when I saw a picture of him, his wife, and two small children. They’re the spitting image of him: blonde-haired, blue-eyed – too perfect. He’s a freaking sociopath.

🔵 The little girl in the picture is wearing a dress I bought for my niece last week.

I stumbled backward, the tailored wool of my skirt bunching in my hands. The nausea clawed at my throat, a bitter taste rising. The dress. My niece’s dress. My breath hitched. The picture wasn’t just a picture; it was a weapon, a carefully constructed lie.

“Get out,” I choked out, the words barely audible above the buzzing light. My voice cracked, betraying the tremor in my hands.

Mark took a step towards me, his face a mask of practiced regret. “Please, let me explain.”

“Explain what? How you used me? How you built a life on deceit?” I couldn’t keep the hysteria from my voice. Every interaction, every shared glance, every late-night call – a carefully crafted deception.

I surged past him, desperate to escape the suffocating air and the realization that I had been a pawn in his twisted game. I didn’t bother to grab my things; I needed to be away.

As I reached the door, I saw it. Another picture. A framed portrait, larger this time. It was him, his wife, the perfect children… and a new addition. A baby, swaddled in a blanket. A blanket identical to the one I’d bought for my niece’s baby shower.

My legs gave way. I sank to the floor, the buzzing light a deafening roar in my ears. He had been planning this for a long time.

Mark’s shadow fell over me, and I flinched, expecting him to come closer. Instead, he said, with a voice devoid of any emotion, “You knew this day would come.”

He had a choice to either leave me alone and allow me to leave on my own or he can do something that I did not expect from him. I waited for a few seconds, and I saw a picture of a child that I had not recognized. I knew that I was being set up. I did not want to die or to be a victim of his plan. I managed to stand up and pushed him and grabbed the keys of my car and left the place. I did not want to be a victim. I had to stop him.
