A family, back in 2016, found a newborn kitten that was wandering in the streets of Thailand, and decided to rescue him from the streets, since the cat had no survival chance in the street.
After a little examination of the cat, they found out that it was not a normal cat, and they called The Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand, and they came for further examination.
After their inspection, they stated that the animal was not a normal cat indeed, it was a fishing cat, a species that was close to extinct.
The cat becomes the two times the size of a normal cat, and loves to fish, as it’s name suggests.
“the fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is a medium-sized wild cat of South and Southeast Asia. Since 2016, it is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Fishing cat populations are threatened by destruction of wetlands and declined severely over the last decade. Fishing cats live foremost in the vicinity of wetlands, along rivers, streams, oxbow lakes, in swamps and mangroves.” The Wikipedia explains about the animal.
The family and the fishing cat bonded together, and they allowed for them to stay together for a period of time. The family named the cat ‘Simba’.
The family also searched for it’s mother, to release him to his mother, where he belonged, but couldn’t found, unfortunately.
“poaching and retribution killing were the major causes for a high Fishing Cat mortality of 84% in Thailand.” The Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand states.
Lets watch a video where they rescue other stray cats!
