A MANAGER KICKS AN ELDERLY WOMAN OUT OF A RESTAURANT BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T FIT IN — THE NEXT DAY, HE SEES HER SITTING AT A TABLE WITH THE OWNER
One day, an elderly woman found herself caught in a torrential downpour after a sudden rainstorm. She decided to take shelter in a well-known café, but the restaurant’s manager promptly kicked her out. What happened next shocked the haughty employee.
Linda Meyers was on her way to dinner when the heavy rain began unexpectedly. Without an umbrella, her neatly styled hair became instantly soaked and disheveled. Her blouse and jacket were also drenched, making them look worn and shabby.
The nearest establishment was a famous café, a favorite haunt of the rich and famous. As Linda approached the entrance, she was suddenly stopped by the doorman.
“Ma’am, this is an exclusive café. To enter, you must have a reservation,” he began, scrutinizing her from head to toe. “Besides, it seems this place is simply not in your price range,” he muttered.
Offended by the rude remark, Linda asked the doorman to call the manager. But instead of allowing her to enter, the manager repeated the doorman’s words and asked her to leave.
“Ma’am, I currently have over a hundred guests inside. Let’s not waste any time. I’m forced to ask you to leave the premises,” said the manager—his name, according to his badge, was Simon.
“I just need to wait out the rain. I’ll even place an order,” Linda insisted.
“I can’t let you in looking like that. You’ll scare all our guests,” Simon shook his head. After that, Linda left, trying to find another place where she could take shelter.
The next day, when Simon arrived at work, the café’s owner was already there. The owner immediately summoned Simon.
“Today is a special day. We will have important guests—my friend and his wife. They are potential buyers for this café. So everything must be perfect.”
Simon conducted a briefing with the waitstaff to ensure that everything was impeccable for the arrival of the VIP guests. Later that evening, the owner called him over to their table.
“Allow me to introduce our manager. He is an excellent employee—he knows his job perfectly, he’s kind, empathetic, attentive, and always ready to help,” the owner praised him.
A woman at the table smiled.
“Really, that’s very nice. I can see he’s exactly as you described him,” she said.
Simon froze in horror as he realized that before him sat the very same woman he had rudely kicked out the previous evening. Noticing the expression on his face, Linda turned to the café owner.
“You have a wonderful restaurant and very caring staff. My husband and I are delighted to buy the café,” she announced.
The next day, Linda and her husband immediately got to work. They wanted to learn how the café operated and to get acquainted with the staff.
When Linda saw Simon, she delivered some unpleasant news.
“Simon, my husband and I have decided to demote you to a waiter. We believe that such treatment of customers is unacceptable,” she explained.
Immediately, Simon was handed an apron and a tray. He felt humiliated, but he didn’t want to lose his job.
A couple of days later, a poorly dressed woman entered the café. She sat down at a table and ordered a sandwich and hot tea. When she finished her meal, Simon brought her the bill.
“Oh my God,” she exclaimed, rummaging through her purse. “It seems I forgot my wallet at home. Please forgive me. I can work off the bill—wash dishes, clean up, anything to pay for my meal.”
Simon shook his head.
“Don’t worry, ma’am. This time, I’ll cover your bill,” he said with a smile.
The woman thanked Simon, and he replied:
“It’s nothing. People should help one another. A few days ago, the new owner of the restaurant gave me a second chance because he’s a kind person. I want to be the same. After all, I believe in karma.”
“I think you’ll be reinstated as manager again,” the woman said cryptically.
Simon was surprised—how did she know about his demotion? At that moment, Linda approached their table.
“This woman is my friend. I wanted to see if you’d learned your lesson. I’m glad to see that you have passed the test. You may resume your duties as manager immediately,” Linda said, patting him on the shoulder.
Simon was overjoyed. He had never experienced such kindness and was grateful to Linda for giving him another chance to prove himself.
From that day on, Simon went to work with a smile. He grew to love his job, and the new owner inspired him to make changes. He became more attentive to both the staff and the customers, which led the café to even greater success.
