WHEN I RETURNED HOME, I FOUND MY DAUGHTER SLEEPING BY THE FRONT DOOR — AND WHAT I DISCOVERED LEFT ME STUNNED
After a week-long business trip, I was finally home, eager to see my little girl. It had been a long seven days away, and all I wanted was to quietly open the door and check on her. But as I entered, I froze—my daughter was asleep on the cold floor, right by the front door, curled up in a blanket.
My heart sank. Why was she lying here, of all places? Had something happened? Was she waiting for me? I felt a pang of guilt, thinking of her by the door, likely falling asleep hoping I’d walk through at any moment.
I gently stepped over her, my mind racing with questions, and moved further into the house, looking for my husband. The lights were dim, and the silence was unsettling. I first checked our bedroom—empty. Strange. It was well past midnight, and he wasn’t there.
As I walked toward my daughter’s room, I heard faint noises coming from behind the door. My hand tightened on the handle, and I took a deep breath. Slowly, I cracked the door open, hoping I was wrong about what I thought I might find.
But when I looked inside, I couldn’t believe my eyes. My husband had turned her room into his personal game space. Her bed had been shoved aside, replaced by a large gaming setup, complete with cables, screens, and his gaming chair.
My daughter, meanwhile, had been left without her own bed, forced to fall asleep on the hallway floor waiting for me. The realization hit me hard—she had been left out, her room taken over. I stood there, watching him play, oblivious to the world around him, while my daughter slept alone by the door.
